HELLESDON & SPROWSTON BRASS of Norwich in the County of Norfolk
Geoff Walker Geoff was appointed the bands Principal Cornet player in July 2009. Geoff was born and brought up in
Huddersfield, and went to Manchester University to study Mathematics. Geoff moved to Norwich in 1990 and is a Financial /
Statistical analyst. He is married with 2 children, one of which is in the band. Geoff has been
playing Cornet for 30 years. He started playing with the Paddock Youth Band
in Huddersfield, with whome he visited Bergen in Norway. Subsequently he joined the Salvation Army and played with
Huddersfield, the Yorkshire Youth Band, Manchester Citadel and
Norwich Mile Cross. After an absence of playing for 5 years Geoff joined the
Hellesdon and Sprowston Band in
March 2007. His most memorable Brass Band moment Geoff says; "would be in the 1980’s playing at a National gathering of Salvation Army Youth, marching through the streets of central London. Then joined with hundreds of young brass players, played in the massed bands at the Royal Albert Hall" If anyone out there plays a brass instrument and is free on a Tuesday evening, come and join us!
Sue Reeve Sue also plays Solo Cornet in the Band Sue feels very lucky to
have had an extremely happy childhood, growing up in Norwich with her Mum and
Dad, two sisters and a brother. Hoping that her own children (Matthew, Helen and
Graham) feel they have had a happy time too. Now aged 52, Sue a Divorcee is in a
wonderful relationship with Philip (Euphonium). In her playing
career Sue has effectively gone full circle. Sprowston Band (a forerunner of
this Band) was originally The Lads Club Band. A young 12 year old Sue started
playing at the Lads Club Band, and that’s also where she first met Philip. In
the 40 years since then Sue has at some time or other, been involved with most
of the Bands in the Norwich/North Norfolk area. She has always played the Cornet
and on the front row. Most memorable brass band moment Sue says; "At aged 15 being
informed on the day of a contest at Thetford, she would have to step up to Principal
Cornet and play Solo passages. The Principal Cornet (Reggie Wyatt) had
a problem with his teeth!! Sue doesn’t remember
her performance being a disaster, or if Reggie’s teeth problems were resolved! Banding is a great
hobby, anyone with musical talent should give it a go.
Elanor Ward
Elanor has recently joined the band and plays Solo cornet. Her first event with the band was the East Anglian Contest where she played Flugel Horn. Elanor is a student at the University of East Anglia.
